PRX PROFILES JAIME Birthdate: Jan 10, 1975 Hometown: Cupertino, CA Occupation: Youth Soccer Coach Education: BS in physiology from UCLA Family Life: Single, no kids. But I will have a yellow lab puppy by this Spring! Running History: I ran track in Jr. High, does that count? Otherwise, the 4 year olds I teach soccer to everyday keep me runnin plenty. Miles per week: Training: 25+ Not training: 5 would be a busy week Paces: 7:30 - 8 minute mile Favorite Race: SF Holiday Fun Run. This is a great 5 mile run along the Embarcadero every December. 500 people wearing santa hats on their heads and bells on their shoes. The look on passerby's faces is priceless. Best Running Experience: The most exciting run I have ever done was probably when I decided to go for a run while visiting a friend in Beijing, China. The plan was to head north to a place called Fragrance Hill, run around the lake and head back, 10 miles total. Long story short, a little curiosity that strayed me from my out and back path, and a sand storm that led to practically zero visibility and I was lost. Not knowing the language and having no money, it was time to play charades with the locals. It ends up that I meet some college students that knew some broken english and they give me a ride back to the university...on bicycle. Actually, since I weighed a little more than them, I did the pedaling. But in the end, we met later, so I could repay them for saving me, and they took me to one of the best fire pot restaurants in Beijing for the tastiest and most entertaining meal I had in China. Worst Running Experience: This time I got lost and wasn't found. I was in high school and on tour in Los Angeles with my church youth group. We talked our youth director in letting us go for an evening jog. It was ugly. We wandered for over 2 hrs before finally finding our way back, only to get a scolding from our director and miss dinner. Diet: I am a simple eater. Gourmet food is wasted on me. I was raised on a German diet of meat, potatoes and vegetables. But I love to treat myself to fettuccine alfredo or ribs. Baja Fresh burritos and In n' Out burgers are great. I definitely have a sweet tooth, thanks to what my friends affectionately refer to as "Mama Parady's" deserts. Injuries: I have had 5 surgeries on my left knee. A rugby injury in college meant ACL and PCL surgery. But if you run near me, it will be the recurring ankle injuries from soccer that makes you question the constant clicking from my ankles. Non-Running Interests: An outdoor enthusiast and athlete, I love any outdoor activity. I play soccer, baseball, volleyball, tennis etc. I've biked across country, climbed Mt. Whitney, ski and snowboard. Less active interests include flying a kite, throwing a boomerang, playing chess and my favorite non-activity is sleeping. Who would star as you in the Hollywood story of your life? When I was younger people said I reminded them of Ricky Schroeder from Silver Spoons. I guess he could do...
