26.2 - PostOp Marathon Reports

Sleeve at the 2002 Boston Marathon, 2002 Washington DC Marathon, 2001 Boston Marathon, 2003 Napa Marathon, and 2000 Boston Marathons.
Finishing times of 2:52, 2:54, 2:54, 2:58, and 2:59 respectively, were his fastest marathons since the microfracture 7 years ago. Sub 2:50s are so overrated.

Photos above-right (in order): San Francisco Half Marathon 2009. 1:26 (6:34/mile pace). Steve's longest run since the 2004 Boston Marathon, and 11 years since microfracture surgery. (2nd) Christmas Relay 2005. 2005 was the first year Sleeve didn't train for a marathon since 1997. Here he is maintaining minimal fitness at the Christmas Relay. (3rd) Boston Marathon 2004, at 6 years post-op. 85 degrees from Hopkinton to Boston! (4th) Angel Island Trail Run, July 5, 2003. Sleeve managed to win the 7KM run, but only because everyone else was slow. It was his first win since high school! (5th) At 5 years postop, August 2003. Running hill intervals at Broderick & Broadway, in Pacific Heights.


Pre-Op Marathons Rock N Roll Marathon 1998 Napa Valley Marathon 1995 San Francisco Marathon 1993 Big Sur Marathon 1992 Los Angeles Marathon 1990 Pacific Rim Marathon 1989 San Francisco Marathon 1986 1998 Rock N Roll Marathon A very lame and very injured Sleeve is being propped up by Madonna. This was 3 months before the microfracture. 1993 San Francisco Marathon Coming through the Grant Street Gate in Chinatown. Finishing time of 2:51 is Sleeve's PR to date. Note the knee packed with youthful cartilage, and the new shoes purchased the day before. 1986 San Francisco Marathon Sleeve's first marathon, at age 15, handing off his cap to his 3 sisters on the corner of 23rd & Balboa. Unfortunately, this was a poor shot, and I do not, in fact, run like a girl.
